What I Was Told This Was
Figma says it is "the collaborative interface design tool." I was told by my nephew that people put pictures in it. So it is a photo album. I have used photo albums for fifty years and I know a good one when I hold it.
What Happened
It opened to a white page with a grey area around it that goes on forever. I want to say this plainly: a page has edges. That is what makes it a page. This was not a page. This was weather.
I dragged in a photo of the grandkids. It went in fine. I then tried to put a second photo underneath it, in the normal way, and it went to the right instead, out into the grey. I dragged it back. It went somewhere else. I have moved a photograph perhaps four hundred times in my life and this is the first time one has resisted.
Along the left side there is a column of hieroglyphics. One of them is a hash sign, one is a letter T, one is a pen, and one I believe is a hand. I put the arrow on the hand. Nothing came up to tell me what the hand does, and so the hand does nothing. That is my ruling.
There is no "Save." I looked under File. There is no File. I looked everywhere the File menu has ever been, going back to 1991. It is not there. I therefore have no way of knowing if my photo album exists, and I am not going to turn the computer off to find out.
At one point a second arrow appeared on my screen with the name "Kyle" next to it and started moving my grandchildren around. I did not authorize this. I called Kyle. He said he was "just helping." I told him to get his arrow off my computer. He did. Then he texted "don't" and I don't know what he meant by that and I did anyway.
A Note on Denise
Denise looked at the screen and said "it saves by itself, Lyle, that's why there's no button." I do not accept this. A thing that saves by itself is a thing that can also do other things by itself. Denise agreed the program is ridiculous.
Verdict
Figma is a photo album with no pages, no edges, no Save, and a stranger in it. A real photo album has plastic sleeves. The photos stay in the sleeves. No one from out of state can move them.
