What I Was Told This Was
Ticketmaster does not say what it is, because everybody knows. It is where you buy the tickets. Denise wanted to see a band at the Civic Center in August, and the newspaper said tickets were on Ticketmaster. So I went to Ticketmaster. I did not have to be told to.
What Happened
I'll be frank: I did everything right. I typed the band. It found the band. I clicked the date. It showed me a map of the Civic Center with the seats on it, in colors, and I picked two seats in Section 104, where we sit. $46.50 each. I clicked the seats.
A clock came up. It said I had eight (8) minutes. It did not say for what. I have bought tickets from a woman named Carol at the Civic Center window since 1994 and Carol has never once put a clock on me.
Now, I'm no expert, but two tickets at $46.50 is $93.00. The next page said $143.70. Under it, in small grey writing, which I read this time, on purpose: a "Service Fee" of $19.85 per ticket, a "Facility Charge" of $4.00 per ticket, and an "Order Processing Fee" of $3.50.
I know what a line item is for. The Service Fee: I found the show, I picked the seats, I typed the numbers off the card. I was the service. The Facility Charge: I am familiar with the facility. It has been there since 1970 and it is not $4.00 more expensive because I used a computer to get in. The Order Processing Fee: a fax machine processes an order for the cost of the paper. I have the paper. It is in the tray.
A box near the top said tickets in my section were "Verified Resale" and cost $210. I took this to be a typing error and have written to them about it separately. Nobody sells a $46.50 ticket for $210 on purpose. That would be a crime, and they are a company.
I paid. The clock was at two minutes and I am not a gambler. The tickets did not come. A page said they were "in the app." I do not have the app. I asked where to print them and the page said "mobile only," which means the tickets exist in Denise's telephone and nowhere else on Earth, and if the telephone is in the other purse on the night, we will be in the parking lot with Carol looking at us through the glass.
A Note on Denise
Denise was at the table the entire time, since it was her laptop, her account, and, it turned out, her band. She did not press anything, which is the first time. When the price went from $93.00 to $143.70 she said "that's just what it is now, Lyle." I said it should not be. She did not disagree. I am counting that.
Verdict
Ticketmaster is a ticket window with a clock on it and a hand in your pocket. Carol's window has neither. I got the tickets, or Denise's telephone did, and so I completed an action, and by the rules that is a three (3). I am taking one (1) off for the clock and one (1) off for the service I did not receive, One (1). I would have given the window a four (4). The window does not have a web site, and I respect that more than I did in June.
